Urban Institute

The Urban Institute is a nonprofit research organization that believes in the power of evidence to improve lives and strengthen communities.

The Urban Institute created a Community Impact Assessment Tool to assess the potential social impacts of local Opportunity Zone investments using evidence-based indicators. The Opportunity Exchange provided feedback on a prototype of the tool, and the Urban Institute worked with Opportunity CLE to test the tool in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County.

This tool is publicly and freely available, and it is designed to help local stakeholders target support to projects that strengthen communities and benefit residents. It can help integrate community impact strategy into your OZ work -- something we know a lot of communities think about regularly.
